“Mangez bien, riez souvent, aimez beaucoup,” is a French phrase that translates to English as “Eat well, laugh often, love abundantly.” You will definitely “eat well” when visiting the French eatery Bistro Barberet & Bakery in downtown Lancaster.

The bistro and bakery opened in 2015 by award-winning owner Chef Cedric Barberet and his wife, Estelle. Both from France, Cedric and Estelle grew up in the pastry business; both of their parents owned bakeries. The small restaurant serves a number of items, from appetizers such as Beef Tartare and Escargot to entrées that feature Grilled Lamb Merguez and Veal Schnitzel (lemon-caper-parsley beurre blanc, arugula salad and shaved parmesan). Bistro Barberet also serves burgers, sandwiches, quiche, soups and salads.

Wanting something sweet? Check out the bakery’s expansive menu, serving beautiful handcrafted treats that look too good to eat. Enjoy L’opéra (almond cake soaked in espresso, layered in coffee buttercream and chocolate ganache), Lollipop Tahiti (passion fruit mousse, strawberry jelly and vanilla macaron), tarts, breads, crème brulée, croissants and more.

And, if you’re looking to enjoy cocktails with a view, Altana Rooftop Lounge is also part of the 26 East mix of properties.
